Lancers Take on Keene in Non-Conference Battle
Worcester, MA- After coming off of two straight overtime meetings with opponents, the Worcester State Lancers Men’s Ice Hockey team (2-0-2, 0-0–1) are back on the ice that started the overtime tradition hosting the Keene State Owls.

How it Happened:
In the first period, the Lancers and Owls would show immediate signs of improvement on the scoring side of things with an action packed period. The Lancers would get the scoring started with a goal by junior Matthew Nuzzolilo (Worcester, MA), assisted by senior Shane Prifrel (Inver Grove Heights, MN) and senior Niklas Byman (Sipoo, FN). The Owls would quickly respond with two consecutive goals, one by Kyle Gonzalez and the other by Marcus Chrisafideis. The 2-1 lead would not last for long as sophomore Jacob Costa (Cranston, RI) smoked one into the net a mere 22 seconds later. After a tough battle with the score once again tied 2-2, Chase Carney of the Owls would put in the lead goal into the net to give the Owls a 3-2 lead that they'd hold on to heading into the second half.
The second period featured strong defense from both sides, but the attack was for the Owls. The Owls would go on to score two more goals, one off the stick of Kyle Gonzalez and the other by Chase Carney as they would extend the lead to 5-2. The Lancers would make several attempts at scoring but were unable to capitalize on opportunities near the net as the tough defense of Keene State held them off the scoreboard. The Owls would hold a 5-2 lead as they would head to the 3rd period.
The final period would see Worcester find some energy, but it would after a six goal from the Owls. Sophomore Bryce Grandbois (Windsor, Ontario) would record the final goal with just under four minutes to go to settle the final score at 6-3.
Juniors Donovan Alfama (Douglas, MA) and Salvatore Carabelli (Shelby Township, NJ) would split the time in the cage with20 saves between the two.
What's Next:
Worcester State (2-1-2, 0-0-1) have just a day's breather before they are back on the road to take on conference foe MCLA at 5pm.
