Wheaton:17
How it Happened:
The Lyons would grab the initial scoring action, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead before the Lancers opened their scoring off a senior Shannon Donahue (Dennis, MA) goal. Wheaton would tack on an additional goal but the Lancers would counter back as senior Molly Witkowski (Greenville, NY) off a slip in from fellow senior Mckayla Fisher (Peabody, MA). Two further Wheaton goals would find the score at 5-2 until Worcester would grab back to back goals, one from junior Kerry Brown (Billerica, MA) and the second from junior Madigan Kelley (Bourne, MA) to close out the first at 5-4.
Wheaton would open the second with a goal but Worcester would settle the score with two goals from Witkowski, the first with the assist from Fisher and the second pulling first year Meghan Heffernan (Westminster, MA) in for points. Just a minute later, first year Savannah Botthof would find Worcester's first lead of the game at 7-6. A late push from the Lyons would reclaim the lead before first year Fallon Lozano (Upton, MA) would find the tie before halftime with the help of Witkowski.
The third found Worcester again falling behind but Witkowski would again find the tie. The Lyons would charge ahead with three more goals before Donahue and Witkowski would snag goal number 10. Heffernan would close out the third for Worcester to force a 13-12, finding themselves down one into the final quarter.
The end of the game saw the Lancers fall short, with a final score of 17-15. In the second half, Wheaton outscored Worcester with 9 goals opposed to Worcester's 7. Wheaton also outmatched Worcester on the shot chart, with a differential of 38 to 30. With about 7:55 to go in the 4th, Worcester was able to cut the lead to one, with a goal from first year Maryl Hooper (Westminster, MA) and an addition from Donahue. However, Worcester would struggle to gain momentum as Wheaton put in another two of their own in response. Donahue would close out the scoring action for Worcester as their late comeback bid fell short.
What's Next:
The Lancers (2-2, 0-0) return home on Tuesday for a 5pm start versus Johnson & Wales for their Evan Armit Tribute game.
