150 Student-Athletes Named to MASCAC Winter/Spring MASCAC All-Academic Team

Westfield, MA — A total of 906 student-athletes have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with selection to the league’s 2023 Winter/Spring All-Academic Team that was released earlier today by Commissioner Angela Baumann.

The Worcester State Athletics Department and the Director of Athletics, Michael Mudd are pleased to announce the hiring of Jay Punsky as the new Head Coach of Lancer’s Men’s Ice Hockey Team. Punsky, who will be the Lancers eighth head coach in program history, will take over duties from MASCAC Co-Coach of the Year Robert Deraney as he moves into a role as assistant coach with Worcester Railers of the ECHL.

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men’s Ice Hockey team traveled up to Plymouth State in a bid to claim the 3rd MASCAC Championship for Worcester State this year, and their first in program history. The Lancers have won a record setting 10 games in the conference for the first time in program history as they hunt for the first MASCAC championship against an undefeated in conference, Plymouth State.

Worcester, Mass. - After being postponed twice due to weather, Worcester State and Salem State clashed in the MASCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Semifinal Wednesday afternoon at the Fidelity Bank Ice Arena in Worcester. A tense offensive battle included three unanswered goals from the Vikings within the first five minutes of the second period, followed by a comeback in the third period by the Lancers to take the lead. The Vikings would not give up, as a last second effort within the final seconds of the game turned into a goal from senior Luke Pepin (Lee, NH) to force overtime.

Worcester, MA- On Thursday evening, the Worcester State Men’s Hockey team was back in action to take on Salem State hoping to obtain win number 11 in MASCAC play. The Lancers defeated the Vikings by a score of 5-2 to obtain the season series sweep against their MASCAC rivals and extend their MASCAC record to 11.

Worcester, MA- On Saturday evening, the Worcester State Men’s Hockey team was back in action to take on #12 ranked Plymouth State, hoping to obtain win number 11 in MASCAC play. Unfortunately for Worcester State, Plymouth State was able to play elite hockey in front of their sell-out crowd as the Panthers defeated the Lancers by a score of 5-1.

Worcester, Mass. - With a top seed in the MASCAC Tournament up for grabs, the Lancers hosted Framingham State Thursday evening in their second to last home game of the regular season. The game was in conjunction with the Ellie Fund, Fund, a local non profit that was created to provide essential support services for breast cancer patients in Massachusetts to ease the stresses of everyday life, allowing the focus to be on family, recovery and healing. The game ended as a historical night as the Lancers’ victory over the Rams marks the first time in their history that the Worcester State Men’s Ice Hockey program has 10 wins in the MASCAC.

Worcester, Mass. - The Lancers took a break from conference play Thursday night as they hosted SUNY Morrisville at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center. Worcester’s efforts in the final minutes that included a goal was unfortunately not enough as the Lancers fell to the Mustangs.

Worcester, MA- On Saturday, January 28, Worcester State Athletics honored some exemplary Lancer Student Athletes and an Alumnus in a halftime ceremony of the Men?s Basketball game versus Salem State. Worcester State paid tribute to the 2022 MASCAC Hall of Fame induction of Eric Swedberg and the participation of Men?s Ice Hockey player Max Roth for Team USA in the Maccabiah Games, where the team won the gold medal, and Women?s Ice Hockey member Clare Conway who was selected to play with Team USA in the World University Games.

Worcester, Mass. - After three games on the road, the Lancers returned home to the Worcester Ice Center Thursday evening, looking to extend their win streak against the undefeated Plymouth State Panthers in MASCAC action. An early lead for the Lancers was unfortunately not enough as they ultimately fell to the Panthers.

The Lancers would come away from the night with their fifth straight win, and their second over the Rams this season, with a 3-0 victory over Framingham State.
