Lancers Support One Love in Meeting with WestConn
Worcester, MA- After a thrilling overtime win in conference this past Saturday, the Worcester State Women’s Lacrosse team (7-4, 2-0) moved out of conference for their One Love Game meeting with Western Connecticut. The One Love Foundation is a national non-profit with the goal of ending relationship abuse. How it Happened:
Worcester State started the first quarter with a powerful performance, allowing them to take an early lead with a goal by senior Shannon Donahue (Dennis, MA). The team increased its lead to 3-1 after junior Kerry Brown (Billerica, MA) and junior Meghan Bowen (Westfield, MA) scored two additional goals. Their offense displayed quick execution and effective teamwork, which senior McKayla Fisher (Peabody, MA) and first-year Fallon Lozano (Upton, MA) demonstrated through their assists. WestConn managed to score two quick goals during the last minutes of the quarter, which resulted in a 3-3 tie despite Worcester State's earlier game control.
Worcester State had a tough second quarter as WestConn went on an extended scoring run. Fisher provided a key highlight with a goal off Brown's assist, but Worcester State struggled to contain the Wolves' offense. Just before halftime, senior Molly Witkowski (Greenville, NY) added an important goal assisted by Donahue, which gave Worcester State momentum heading into the break despite trailing 10-5.
Worcester State kept fighting during the third quarter, but was unable to put a stop to WestConn's offensive power. Fisher scored another goal for the Lancers after WestConn managed to extend its lead with multiple goals. WestConn then answered back immediately to build their lead, which left Worcester State behind 15-6 going into the fourth quarter.
Worcester State was unable to work their way back into the game when WestConn maintained its offensive control throughout the fourth quarter. WestConn increased its lead by scoring four additional goals while Worcester State was able to score a goal by junior Madigan Kelley (Bourne, MA). The game ended with Worcester State losing to WestConn by a score of 19-7.

Worcester State (7-5, 2-0) is back on Coughlin Field this Saturday at 11 am when they host Anna Maria for their senior game.
