Margraf Grabs First Collegiate Win Leading Lancers to First Win of the Season, Takes Down Pilgrims

Worcester, MA- In just their second game of the season the Lancers Women's Ice Hockey team (0-1, 0-0) is on the road as they head north to take on New England College.

How it Happened:

The first period would see a defensive battle between the two programs. New England College would snag some power play opportunities but the Blue and Gold would be effective on the penalty kill and shut the Pilgrims down. Worcester would get some shots towards the crease but the NEC would stop it continuing a grinding first period. The two programs would be scoreless after one with Worcester up on shots 14-9.

The second period would see the Pilgrims come out firing offensively. NEC would fire the first goal in the first five and a half minutes of the second but that lead would be short lived. 90 seconds later first year Princess Delano (Mountainside, NJ) would fire her first career goal with the assist of junior Fiona Hatton (Homer, AK) to even the score but one a piece. Both teams would play great defense after the two goals and would go into the second period intermission 1-1.

Third period action would see deja vu from the first period as both defenses would be the x-factor for both programs. NEC and Worcester State would both try to find rhythm offensively but for most of the third period would be held scoreless. However with 59 seconds remaining senior Cailey Ryan (Acton, MA) would be the one to sneak one pass the NEC net thanks to Junior Abbey Millman (Georgetown, MA) to take the lead and would give the Lancers an exciting 2-1 win.

Sophomore Maverick Margraf (Chaska ,MN) would anchor the net stopping 37 saves in the action in his first collegiate win.

Worcester State (1-1, 0-0) has a week off before they open up their conference schedule with a meeting with Framingham State next Saturday night for an 8pm start.
