Lancers Down Bears in Overtime Battle on Senior Day
Worcester, MA- With the final regular season game of the 2025-26 season, the Worcester State Women’s Basketball team (9-15, 6-7) hosted Bridgewater State in a game that would be crucial to determine their location for the quarterfinal round of the MASAC postseason tournament next Tuesday. The Worcester State Women's basketball team started the first half of the game with strong momentum against Bridgewater State University. The team used defensive pressure and balanced scoring to build and maintain its lead throughout the game. Junior Mia Haynes (Worcester, MA) sparked the surge with multiple layups and a jump shot. At the same time, junior Lena Waldron (Quincy, MA) contributed key three-pointers and aggressive play on both ends, including steals and rebounds that shifted possession in Worcester State's favor. Senior Hannah Lomonaco (Northbridge, MA) added a clutch three-pointer and knocked down free throws, helping stretch the advantage. Junior Aydan Gulliver (Cranston, RI) chipped in with a timely three-pointer and assisted on key baskets as the Lancers capitalized on Bridgewater State turnovers. Worcester State maintained control throughout the first half of the game because of its defensive rebounds and transition offense. The team entered the break with a solid edge after controlling the game.
The Lancers achieved an 81-72 overtime victory against Bridgewater State University because they maintained their composure at the free-throw line and made essential defensive stops. The fourth quarter saw multiple scoring deadlocks until Worcester State obtained victory through Hannah Lomonaco's successful free throws during regulation and overtime, and Lena Waldron's crucial shots, which she made while driving to the basket. Down the final stretch of the game, Mia Haynes and Aydan Gulliver made essential baskets and secured rebounds, which enabled the Lancers to regain their strength after Bridgewater State's scoring runs. Worcester State won because they were able to control the game pace, won defensive rebounds, and made free throws during the final moments of the game, which allowed it to win by nine points in its tight conference game.
Lomonaco led the Lancers charge with 27 points while junior Alana Smith (Chicopee, MA) would control the boards with 13 rebounds.
