How it Happened:
The Lancers started hard and fast in Fitchburg as senior Hannah Lomonaco (Northbridge, MA) would lead off with an opening layup off the assist from junior Alana Smith (Chicopee, MA). Smith came into the game after a huge defense performance on Wednesday with 21 rebounds in their game with Westfield State. Junior Lena Waldron (Quincy, MA) would take the score on the roll as she recorded seven points in a row to push Worcester to an 11-0 lead. Worcester managed to keep the Falcons off the board until just four minutes left in the quarter, and only allowed them to double that total by the final horn, carrying a 23-4 lead into the second.
First year Derin Tokcan (Istanbul, TR) would start the next quarter for Worcester with a long three and some additional support from junior Mia Haynes (Worcester, MA) would find Worcester up by 31 points halfway through the action. Lomonaco would add some additional scoring assistance alongside first year Thais Dos Santos (Saugus, MA) and junior Ava Lemanski (Clinton, MA) for the 42-10 halftime score.
After halftime the Lancers looked as if they had not lost a step with the break as Smith started the action off and was a dominant forced across the court in the quarter. Worcester would keep their intensity up to preserve the 35 point advantage into the final 10 minutes of the game. The Blue and Gold's bench really made their presence known in the tail end of the game as sophomore Sophia Faginski (South Hadley, MA), sophomore Emma Quinn (Wakefield, MA) and first year Lena Malymina (Franklin, MA) found their own scoring success on the court. By the time the clock hit zero Worcester had claimed the 86-43.
Waldron led the team with 15 points while Haynes claimed nine rebounds in the win.
