Final
Worcester State: 2
Springfield: 0
How it Happened:
The first half would be a defensive contest between the two programs. Springfield would enter the Lancers defensive zone for the most of the half but the Blue and Gold were ready for the challenge. Worcester would snag some opportunities on offense including a free shot off a yellow card but would not be able to convert the score as the shot went high, just missing the crossbar. Junior Zach Nelson (Geneseo, IL) would save five shots for Worcester in the first half.
The persistence would come to fruition for Worcester about 10 minutes into the second half as junior Brady Iovanni (Lunenburg, MA) would send a corner kick to the foot of junior SJ Aquino (Mons, Belgium) who stepped into the send and read the seem to the open portion of the cage for the opening goal of the match. The intensity would continue to mount as the Pride looked to power through the Lancers impenetrable wall. A quick break away with 10 minutes left would find sophomore Ciledson Segundo (Norwood, MA) receiving a slipped pass from fellow sophomore Cody Gas (Norton, MA) through the defense to tuck the attempt into the bottom right corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead. Nelson wrapped up the shutout win with seven saves in the contest.
What's Next:
The Lancers (5-6, 3-2) are back in conference play on Saturday when they journey to Westfield State for an 11am meeting with the Owls.
