Worcester, MA- After coming off a tight battle Thursday night, the Worcester State Men's Ice Hockey team (2-0-1, 0-0-1) is back on road ice as they journey to Johnson & Wales to face the Wildcats.
Final (SO 0-2)
Worcester State: 1
J&W: 1
How it Happened:
The Wildcats would jump out on to the offensive early, recording the first two shots in the attacking zone before Worcester had their first scoring opportunity, which allowed them to put heat to the skates. Worcester would go on the power play early, just over three minutes into the game and would quickly record an opening goal from Brady Carpenter off of the slick passes of Matt Lombardi and Christian Howanitz. The remainder of the first would find each team trading shots and chances in an energetic period of action with Worcester coming into the first intermission with the 1-0 lead.
Johnson & Wales would grab the first power play of the second but the Lancers defense would shut down the opportunity to keep the lead and return the match to the equal back and forth footing of the majority of the first. Just over seven minutes into the second the Wildcats would even the score at one all and begin an offensive attack, but Worcester's defense would hold the line and reestablish an equilibrium through the rest of the second for the 1-1 score into the second intermission.
The third period would continue to see balanced play and opportunities between both teams and force Worcester into their second straight overtime game and shootout action to decide the final winner. The wildcats would snake in their first attempts while Worcester would be knocked away to fall 2-0 in the shootouts.
What's Next:
The Lancers (2-0-2, 0-0-1) return to home ice next Thursday as they host Keene State for a 7:10pm puck drop.
