Baseball Donates Clothes, Engages In Multiple Community Projects
Worcester, MA --- Since the beginning of the 2013-14 academic year, the Worcester State baseball team has been active in the local community participating in several noteworthy endeavors which have included donating clothing and the "ice bucket challenge.
Worcester, MA --- Since the beginning of the 2013-14 academic year, the Worcester State baseball team has been active in the local community participating in several noteworthy endeavors.
After returning home from the Thanksgiving break, the squad donated several bags of clothing to the Goodwill Store on Park Avenue to help benefit needy families entering the winter months.
This past fall, the team also participated in the "Ice Bucket Challenge" and raised $100, which was donated to the Pete Frates3 Fund to help benefit raising money and awareness for Amytropic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research.
On Thursday, Sepetember 4, head baseball coach Dr. Dirk Baker officially accepted the challenge, which had been issued by Bryan Morry, who is the executive Director of the Patriots Hall of Fame.
In his video, Baker called on former WSU standouts and current head high school coaches Eric Swedberg (Auburn) and Bear Dunn (Shepherd Hill) along with WPI head coach Mike Callahan to participate in the challenge that swept Massachusetts and the United States by storm over the summer,
In the last 12 months, the baseball team has also participated in various clinics throughout the area while also hosting a youth clinic on July 29 in conjunction with the Chinese Taipei National Team.
The squad has also been involved with Locks of Love, the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, Big Brother, Jeremiah Inn, various community reading days, the Special Olympics, Friendly House and the Kids to College Shadow Program.
