Final
Worcester State: 3
Clark: 2
How it Happened:
The first set was narrowly won by the Cougars by a score of 25-22. The Lancers started to build momentum towards the end of the set, but it was not enough to propel them to a set win. In the first set, senior outside hitter Katie Cueva (Tewksbury, MA) led the Lancers in total kills for the set with two through the course of play.
The Cougars would take the second set in extras by a score of 26-24. The Lancers showed their resilience, clawing back from an early deficit behind strong swings from sophomore Beatrice Gamboa-Estrella (Simi Valley, CA), who recorded four kills in the set. Worcester's service game began to heat up behind sophomore Katherine Crateau (North Andover, MA), who added two service aces to keep the Blue and Gold in contention before Clark narrowly edged them out.
Down two sets to none, Worcester State refused to back down. The third set saw the Lancers' offense hit its stride, posting their best hitting percentage of the night at .220. Senior middle hitter Kate Stedronsky (Sea Girt, NJ) led the way with three kills, while Cueva and senior Cassidy D'Esposito (Medford, NY) added timely points to push the Lancers through a dramatic 29-27 victory. Crateau continued to be a difference-maker at the service line, notching another ace during the late rally.
Carrying their momentum into the fourth set, the Lancers looked confident and composed. Worcester State controlled the tempo, fueled by standout play from right side first year Reece Connors (Fresno, CA), who tallied three kills in the frame. The defensive effort, anchored by setter senior Michelle Iannacito (Bronx, NY) with 14 digs overall, helped hold Clark to a negative hitting percentage as the Lancers pulled away 25-20 to even the match at two sets apiece.
The fifth and deciding set was as competitive as they come. Both teams traded points deep into extra play, but Worcester State's energy and team chemistry shone through when it mattered most. Gamboa-Estrella and Stedronsky each delivered clutch kills down the stretch, and a late block from senior Paige Thomason (Hudson, MA) helped seal the comeback. The Lancers outlasted the Cougars 17-15 to complete the reverse sweep.
Worcester State finished the night with 42 total kills, highlighted by strong contributions from Gamboa-Estrella with 7 kills, 5 aces, 10 digs and Stedronsky with ehr 7 kills, .300 hitting percentage. Crateau added five aces, while Iannacito dished out 21 assists and anchored the back row. The Blue and Gold also recorded nine total blocks, with Thomason leading the way with seven block assists.
