Worcester State Heads to Atlanta for NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Tournament

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's volleyball team will head to Atlanta for the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball regional tournament, hosted by Emory University, this week as the Lancers earned an automatic bid to the tournament for winning their first Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) tournament championship this past weekend.

The eighth seeded Lancers (26-8) will face the first seeded Emory in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, November 9 at 8 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available. The Emory Eagles are 27-6 and entered the bracket with an at-large bid after being defeated by Washington in the University Athletic Association (UAA) championship. This is the Eagles' 22^nd straight trip to the NCAA tournament. Last year they advanced to the national quarterfinals. Other schools in the Georgia regional bracket include Christopher Newport, Thomas More, Birmingham-Southern, Covenant, Berry, and Hanover.

64 teams in total advanced to the NCAA Division III volleyball tournament – 43 were automatic qualifiers for winning their conference tournaments, 20 earned an at-large bid, and one independent team rounded out the 64.

The eight regional sites include: Atlanta, Georgia (Emory), Bloomington, Illinois (Illinois Wesleyan), Georgetown, Texas (Southwestern), Owings Mills, Maryland (Stevenson), Potsdam, New York (Clarkson), Providence, Rhode Island (Johnson & Wales), St. Paul, Minnesota (Northwestern-St. Paul), and Westerville, Ohio (Otterbein).
