Women’s Indoor Track Among Top 10 At Tufts Cupid Invitational

Medford, MA --- Senior Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) qualified for the Division III New England Championships with fifth overall in the 200 meters (26.93) as she helped lead the Worcester State women's indoor track and field team to a tie for eighth overall at the Tufts Cupid Invitational.

WSU scored 27 points to equal the efforts of Coast Guard and Brandeis while MIT captured the crown with 190 points.

The 4x400 meter relay of junior Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA), classmate Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty), sophomore Aliya-Marie Melville (Worcester, MA/South) and senior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) stood out for the Blue and Gold finishing second with a time of 4:12.63.

Senior Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) was the length of a finger nail away from hitting the Division III New England standard in the long jump (16-3.25/4.96 meters) in fourth followed by classmate Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) who notched seventh in the same event (16-2.50/4.94m).

McMahon and Jasper crossed the line in seventh (9.63), and eighth (9.67), respectively, in the 60 meter hurdles as Jasper notched ninth in the shot put (35-10/10.92m) and McMahon registered 11th in the 400 (1:02.31).

Hodgerney was 0.02 seconds away from qualifying for the finals of the 60 with ninth (8.22) while sophomore Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) tossed eighth in the shot put (36-10.25/11.23m) and junior Francesca Casasanta (Natick, MA) cleared ninth in the high jump (4-11.75/1.52m).

The Lancers will compete again next week at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships hosted by Rhode Island College at Providence Technical High School.
