Western Connecticut Blanks Women's Soccer, 3-0
Danbury, CT --- Western Connecticut netted one goal in the first half and two more in the second half to post a 3-0 triumph over Worcester State in non-conference women's soccer action this evening. Freshman Mia Koutoulas registered seven saves in the setback for WSU.
Danbury, CT --- Western Connecticut senior Tracy Sales (Cumberland, RI) scored a pair of goals and assisted on Western Connecticut's third marker and the Colonials went onto defeat Worcester State University, 3-0 on a rainy Tuesday night at The WAC.
Sales gave Western, 7-3-1, a 1-0 lead when she was on the receiving end of a two fine passes from fourth-year Katie Wolfe (Suffern, NY) and junior Ariana D'Aurio (Cheshire, CT) in the 24th minute.
Three minutes into the second half, Sales collected her fourth goal of the season after collecting a failed clear from the Lancers' defense.
D'Aurio tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the season when she finished off a swift pass from Sales in the 58th minute of play.
Colonial senior Caitlin Avery (East Hampton, CT) earned the win and made one save before yielding to classmate Jamie Trayer (Oakville, CT) for the final 28 minutes. Trayer turned away two shots.
Freshman Mia Koutoulas (Danvers, MA) made seven saves for Worcester State, now 4-6 on the season.
The Colonials out shot the Lancers, 21-6, on the night.
Western plays host to Rhode Island College this Saturday, October 6. Game time is slated for 12 noon.
