Women's Soccer Edges Fitchburg State, 3-2, in MASCAC Opener
Worcester, MA --- Senior Michelle Astuccio tallied a goal and an assist to help lift Worcester State, 3-2, over Fitchburg State, on Saturday afternoon at Coughlin Field. With the win the Lancers improve to 4-1-1 (1-0, MASCAC) while the Falcons drop to 5-3 (0-1, MASCAC).

Worcester, MA --- Senior Michelle Astuccio (Foxboro, MA) tallied a goal and an assist to help lift Worcester State, 3-2, over Fitchburg State, on Saturday afternoon at Coughlin Field. With the win the Lancers improve to 4-1-1 (1-0, MASCAC) while the Falcons drop to 5-3 (0-1, MASCAC).
Senior Tiffany Rotatori (Auburn, MA) opened the game for Worcester State, with her fifth goal of the season in the second minute on a cross from sophomore Kara Rogato (N. Andover, MA).
The Falcons tied the game up 1-1 in the tenth minute when senior Lauren Wundt (Southwick, MA) knocked in a feed from sophomore Ali Landry (Bellingham, MA). Wundt's goal, her team-leading eighth of the season, ties the career mark of goals at Fitchburg with 29.
The Lancers scored three minutes later in the 12th on a corner kick cross by Astuccio to senior Amanda Santos (Milford, MA) and again in the 20th on a key insurance marker by Astuccio.
Sophomore Heather Sharp (Halifax, MA) got the Falcons within a goal when she took a feed, from a corner kick by classmate Mary Lindberg (Auburn, MA), just before the second half expired in the 40th minute.
The game remained 3-2 for the rest of the game as the Worcester State defense held Fitchburg State to just four shots in the second stanza. FSC finished the game with a 15-13 edge in shots and corners (6-4)
Sophomore Rachael Armenti (W. Boylston, MA) earned her second win of the season as she finished with five saves. Junior Emily Swan (Franklin, MA) gave way to classmate Kyla Batchelder (Stoughton, MA), who did not allow a goal while she made four stops between the pipes for the Falcons.
Both teams will play Little East Conference opponents on Tuesday. Worcester State will entertain Plymouth State a 7 PM while Fitchburg visits UMass Boston at 3:30.
