News mentions
The 2023 season for the Lancers ended shy of where the team hoped to finish this season, with a second-round playoff exit. Despite that, there were numerous accomplishments by the team and players throughout the year that made this one of the most remarkable seasons for the program.
Worcester, MA- The MASCAC Women’s Lacrosse playoffs started today as the fourth-seeded Lancers (9-8, 5-2) were matched against the fifth-seeded Salem State Vikings (6-10, 3-4) in the quarterfinal match. The winner of tonight's game would go on to play the undefeated Westfield State Owls on Thursday evening. This will be a rematch from April 21 where Worcester traveled to Salem and defeated the Vikings by a score of 19-5. Senior attacker Shea Jarvis (Auburn, MA) scored five goals in the contest while Vikings senior midfielder Mackenzie Shmink (Danvers, MA) had two goals.
Worcester, MA- An overcast Saturday afternoon at John F. Caughlin Memorial Field set the scene for the Lancers final regular season tilt. Prior to the action, Worcester State celebrated eight graduating student-athletes as a part of senior day.
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers (7-7, 3-1) travel north of Boston to take on the Salem State Vikings (4-9, 1-3) for a MASCAC matchup. With two games remaining in the season after today, the Lancers will try to stay at the top of the conference standings.
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers (7-6) hosted the Westfield State Owls (8-5) today at John Coughlin Field.
Worcester, Mass. - Worcester State Women’s Lacrosse returned home after three games on the road for a conference showdown against the Mass Maritime Buccaneers on a bright sunny afternoon at Coughlin Field. Five goals from Graduate Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) helped the Lancer conquest over the Bucs.
Worcester, Mass. - The Lancers made the journey to Danbury Wednesday evening to take on Western Connecticut in non-conference action. Worcester State’s two goals in the 4th quarter for a late comeback bid were not enough as the Lancers fell to the Wolves in a tough battle.
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women’s Lacrosse team (5-5) traveled to MCLA (2-2) today to take on the Trailblazers after a dominating 15-1 victory over Wellesley College on Wednesday.
Worcester, MA- Worcester State was back in action on Monday night looking to make it two straight as they played host to Emmanuel College in a Monday night thriller.
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women’s Lacrosse team (2-5) faced the Bridgewater State Bears (4-5) today at John Coughlin Memorial Field.
Worcester, Mass. - The Lancers returned home from Hilton Head Tuesday evening for a matchup against Western New England in non-conference action at Coughlin Memorial Field. Unfortunately Worcester State was unable to comeback from their deficit and ultimately fell to the Golden Bears.
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women’s Lacrosse team had their first action of Spring Break when they took on Colby-Sawyer at Hilton Head in the first of their two game set. The Lancers were looking to grab their first win of the season in a local showdown down south.
Worcester, MA- The Lancers’ Women’s Lacrosse team took to John F. Caughlin Memorial Field tonight for their first home game of the young season, hosting the Bates College Bobcats. It would come on a cold early March evening, when the Lancers opened up their home slate of games. Worcester battled it back and forth with the Bobcats before ultimately falling 16-8.
The Women’s Lacrosse team finished with an above-500 record and saw many high-scoring close matches throughout the season. The team returns eight true seniors and one grad student who is currently killing it on as a member of the Women's Hockey team as well. This team is led by head coach Kelly Downs who also works as the coordinator of student-athlete support services in the athletics department. This team has many things to look forward to as they look to emulate many of the other teams on campus that have had both regular-season and postseason success. I took it upon myself to interview three of the players who will all be looking to make a big impact in the upcoming season.
