Framingham, Mass. –The Worcester State University women's lacrosse team fell 17-5 to Framingham State in the final regular season game during Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday evening at Maple Street Field.
With the loss the Lancers close out the regular season 10-5 overall, 4-3 in MASCAC play. With the win Framingham State moves to 14-3 overall and 6-0 in MASCAC action, capturing the regular season conference title.
Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.) and junior Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.) paced the Rams on the offensive side of the ball. Marino tallied a game-best six goals with two helpers, while Gamache found the back of the net five times and assisted on one.
Sophomore Hanna McMahon (Watertown, Mass.) chipped in with three goals, while sister Jenna McMahon (Watertown, Mass.), junior Nicole Pacheco (Woburn, Mass.) and senior Shae Riley (Fairhaven, Mass.) tallied a goal with two helpers.
The Rams snagged the first draw control of the game and marched right down the field for the game's first goal from Pacheco just under 20 seconds into the game.
The Lancers would tally the next three taking a 3-1 lead. Junior Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) struck first with just under 25 on the clock. Hill assisted on a marker from sophomore Taylor Dube (Milford, Mass.) and Hill scored her first at 17:32 for the lead.
The Rams scored eight straight to retake the lead for good. Gamache tallied three straight to tie the game and put the Rams up one. Riley converted a free position shot and Marino scored three times with Gamache added one more on the spurt.
Hill found the back of the net in the final minute of the half to send the game to the break with the Rams leading 9-4.
The Rams extended the lead to as many as 12 in the second half.
Senior Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) earned the win in net for the Rams making sour saves, while Chloe O'Brien (Sturbridge, Mass.) took the loss and made six stops for the Lancers.
Both teams are back in action in the MASCAC Tournament later this week with the Rams hosting one semifinal on Thursday and the Lancers hosting a quarterfinal on Tuesday.
