Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Allegheny, 18-8

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Worcester State University women's lacrosse team wrapped up their stay in the Carolina's Wednesday afternoon with an 18-8 loss to the Allegheny College Gators.

The Lancers gave up a total of 33 turnovers and struggled to stop the Gators' offensive threat, including Alexa Maloney (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Lexi Esing (Reading, Pa.) who scored four and three goals, respectively, for Allegheny.

From the start, it looked like the game was in the Lancers' hands when Alaina Martin (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) and Alexis Vecchiarelli (Agawam, Mass.) tallied two back-to-back goals in the first three minutes of play. However, Allegheny rallied back and pulled off an 8-0 run to advance the score to 8-2 in their favor with eight minutes left in the half. Worcester State responded with three of their own from Martin, Kelly Austin (Brimfield, Mass.), and Erin Haltam (Medina, Ohio), and went into the half behind 9-5 as Maloney recorded a goal in the last two minutes of the stanza.

Allegheny came out and scored a pair of goals to start the second half. Worcester State's Mackenzie Little (Marlboro, Mass.) broke up the run, however, Einsig scored a pair of goals moments later to increase the Gators' lead to 14-6. The Lancers scored another goal, but the Gators kept on firing shots into the back of the net to put the game out of reach for Worcester State, in turn, concluding the game at 18-8.

Worcester State's Krissy Pessa (Walpole, Mass.) was tagged the loss in goal, as she stopped 8-of-26 shots on goal.

The Lancers will travel home in the upcoming days and will seek their first win of the season on Tuesday, March 28 when they host Western Connecticut in a 7 p.m. matchup.
