Women's Lacrosse Closes Florida Swing With 14-9 Victory Over Morrisville State

Clearwater, FL --- Senior Angela Grassetti (Agawam, MA) paced a strong defensive effort with three ground balls, a game-best five draws and three forced miscues to help lead Worcester State to a 14-9 victory over Morrisville State in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Glenn Oaks Park.

The Lancers improved to 5-0 overall in the victory while the Mustangs fell to 0-4 in the setback.

Offensively, junior Kaila Chase (Northbridge, MA) had a team-high four goals while classmate Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) finished with a hat-trick and did a little bit of everything finishing with four ground balls, four draws and a five caused turnovers.

Senior Katelyn Murphy (Billerica, MA) added five ground balls and a trio of forced mistakes and senior Jackie Lawlor (Westford, MA) picked up six ground balls.  

Morrisville State was propelled by senior Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, NY) registered a team-high five goals to go along with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sophomore DeeAnna Rammelt (Central Square, NY) potted two tallies and she had a hand in six draws.

Worcester State opened up the game with the quick three goal advantage before the Mustangs answered on consecutive markers by Wood and sophomore Ally Zlinsky (Owego, NY) to trail 3-2 around the midway point.

Fueled by three markers by Chase, the Blue and Gold closed out the period by doubling up their opponents 6-3 for the four goal lead at the intermission (9-5).

Kilday did score the first score of the second period for the Lancers, but Morrisville State found the back of the net twice times in a span of eight minutes to trail 10-7 with 21:30 on the clock.

Following a goal by Lawlor six minutes later, both squads had their chances to score over the next eight minutes, but it was the home team that scored on an unassisted tally by Connors at the 8:47 mark. The Lancers used the momentum as both squads went goal for goal the rest of the way for the final margin

Senior Lea Robichaud (Holden, MA) turned aside 10 shots for WSU while Morrisville State junior Caitlyn Dunphy (Putnam Valley, NY) collected 20 saves.

Worcester State led in shots (35-25), ground balls (35-21) and draws (14-11). The Mustangs had five free position goals on six attempts, however, had trouble on clears (10-for-23) and 31 turnovers.

The Lancers will play UMass Dartmouth one week from Wednesday on the road at 4 PM. Morrisville State entertains Lancaster Bible on Friday at 4 o'clock.
