Worcester State: 1
Anna Maria: 0
How it Happened:
The first period would see the Blue and Gold go on the power play early just 1:30 into the opening period. Worcester would have some opportunities to drive to the net for the score but Anna Maria would be able to kill off the penalty for what would be a classic MASCAC rivalry between the two programs. By the closing 20 minutes each team would compile a power kill each while the Lancers would hold the slight 12-11 shot advantage.
Déjà vu would be the headline to begin the second as both teams offensively would attack in the first five minutes but would be denied as both teams defensively would hold their ground. Worcester would get another opportunity on the power play eight minutes into the period, but the AMCATs would kill the penalty once again forcing Worcester to go 0/2 on the power play thus far in the match. Worcester would go on the penalty kill with 0:58 to go in the second period and then Anna Maria would commit a tripping penalty with one second remaining in the period to send the teams on even footing into the third for the first minute. Both teams would be held scoreless with Worcester on the shot advantage 27-17.
Third period would see a 4v4 to start the period with both teams adding another penalty for each side keeping it 4v4 for the first four minutes in the period. Both teams would not capitalize as the defensive effort from both sides was on full display just like in the last two periods. The tide would switch past the midway point of the third as Anna Maria would commit another penalty and this time the Lancers would answer. Sophomore Emily Johns (Clinton, MA) would fire one pass the AMCAT net as Junior Caroline Melanson (Wakefield, MA) and first year Lindsay Wagner (Waterbury, VT) would assist Johns as Worcester took the lead 1-0. Worcester would kill one more AMCAT power play and walk out of the dcu center victors 1-0.
Senior Kelsey Czerniawski (Chicopee,MA) would get the shutout victory with 29 saves in the contest.
