Worcester State Picked Fourth in MASCAC Preseason Coaches Poll

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Basketball team has been selected to finish fourth in the MASCAC Pre-season poll as voted on by the conference coaches. The Lancers look to return to championship season, falling just shy last season in a loss to eventual MASCAC Champion Bridgewater State in the semi-final game. The Lancers are led this year by seniors Katie Hurynowicz (Tyngsboro, MA), who finished last season with 255 points, Nyah Thomas (Attleboro, MA), who recorded 223 points and junior Abby St. Martin (Putnam, CT) who nabbed 133 rebounds last season.

Grabbing the top spot in the poll was 2023 MASCAC Champions Bridgewater State who collected 36 points and six of the first-place votes. In second place was Framingham State who took home the last first place vote and 30 points. Three points behind the top two was Westfield State, who collected 27 points.

Landing in fourth with 19 points is Worcester State. The Lancers finished the season 11-16, and 6-6 in the conference, finishing as 5^th seed entering the post season tournament. Hurynowicz returns to the Lancer court after she averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season with 49 assists, 39 steals and 14 blocks.

Coming in, in the 5^th spot is Salem State just a point behind the Lancers with 18 points, as Fitchburg and MCLA wrap up the 6^th and 7^th spots with nine and eight points respectively.

The MASCAC women's basketball teams return to the hardwood over the next few weeks with their opening non-conference contests then after the new year, the MASCAC schedule will begin. Follow all the action at wsulancers.com.
