Women's Basketball Falls to Framingham State in Championship

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's basketball team saw its 2019-20 season come to a close on Saturday afternoon, falling to Framingham State University 66-51 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.

With the loss, Worcester State's season ends at a mark of 19-8. Framingham State wins its first ever MASCAC women's basketball championship.

Framingham State scored the game's first 10 points before Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass.) finally broke the ice with a three with 5:15 into the contest. The Lancers came all the way back by the end of the quarter, trailing by just a margin of 12-10 after one quarter.

The Rams ran right back out to a nine-point advantage in the first four minutes of the second quarter at 20-11, but Worcester State again had an answer. The Lancers responded with a 13-2 run to take the 24-22 lead, but Framingham scored the final five points of the first half to take a 27-24 lead to the locker room.

The third quarter was all Framingham State, as the Rams outscored Worcester State 23-10 to extend its lead to 16 headed to the third. Mary Kate O'Day scored 11 points for the Rams in the period.

The Lancers were unable to close the gap in the fourth as the Rams closed out their championship. Worcester State narrowly outscored Framingham 17-16 in the quarter, but the deficit was far too wide to overcome.

Mosley was Worcester State's leading scorer with 22 points in the defeat. Gigi LeMay (Grafton, Mass.) put in nine points for the Lancers off the bench, while senior Catherine Sweeney (Lowell, Mass.) finished with six points and eight rebounds.
