Women's Hoops Defeated by Framingham State

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's basketball team squandered a fourth quarter lead on Saturday afternoon, falling to Framingham State University 71-64 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at John P. Brissette Court.

With the loss, Worcester State falls to 13-8 overall on the season and 4-4 in the MASCAC. Framingham State stays unbeaten at 8-0 in the conference, and improves to 16-5 overall.

Framingham State ran out to an early lead of nine points midway through the first quarter, but the Lancers quickly battled back to close the gap and trail by a margin of 19-15 after one. Flannery O'Connor led all players with eight points in the quarter, while Charlotte MacMillan (Brunswick, Maine) led Worcester with seven.

Worcester State senior Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass.) put up 12 points in the second quarter to push the Lancers into a 34-33 lead at the half. Mosley had a game-high 16 points in the half, while O'Connor had 15 for the visitors.

Worcester State narrowly outscored the Rams 14-12 in the third quarter to take a 48-45 lead into the fourth. Mosley had eight points in the quarter to lead all players. 

The fourth quarter was all Rams, as the visitors pulled off the comeback to stay unbeaten in league play. The Rams shot 77 percent from the field in the quarter (10-for-13), while Worcester State was held to just 35 percent shooting (6-for-17). O'Connor had eight points in the quarter, while Mary Kate O'Day and Emily Velozo scored seven and six respectively.

Mosley was the game's leading scorer with 30 points to go along with seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. O'Connor finished with 27 to lead Framingham State.

Worcester State will return to the court on Wednesday evening, hosting Salem State University at Brissette Court for a 5:30 p.m. tip. Framingham will be back in action the same evening, traveling to MCLA.
