Berkel Scores 19 Points in Lancers’ 61-53 Setback to Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.- The Worcester State University women's basketball team fell to the Framingham State Rams 61-53 in a Saturday afternoon Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup.

With the loss, the Lancers slip to 7-11 and 3-2 in the MASCAC, while the hosts improve to 14-3 and 4-1 in the league.

The Rams were led by Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) who scored a team-high 12 points with 8 boards and two blocked shots. Raegan Mulherin (Baldwinville, Mass.) and Monta Connolly (Lynn, Mass.) added nine points apiece.

Kaitlyn Berkel (Waterford, Conn.) scored a game-high 19 points including 15 in the second half to lead the Lancers. Britt Herring (West Brookfield, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.

The Rams led 18-10 at the end of the first quarter but a 9-0 run for the Lancers gave the visitors a 19-18 lead halfway through the second frame. The Rams answered as the two teams entered the locker rooms with Framigham leading 27-25.

The close play continued through the 4^th quarter with just over five minutes to play in regulation when Herring cut the Rams lead to 52-49. The Rams then broke off a 10-3 run capped by a Connolly layup with 46 ticks to go to make it a 59-51 advantage and put the game away for Framingham State.

The Rams shot 31.4% from the field and only 11.8% from long-range. The Lancers were 36.7% from the floor and did not connect from beyond the arc.

Framingham State returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, January 25^th when they host Fitchburg State in MASCAC play. The Lancers are in action the same day when they host Westfield State.
