Women's Basketball To Host “Math Madness” For Local Students Thursday

Worcester, MA --- For the fourth time in as many years, the Worcester State women's basketball team will be hosting a "Math Madness" event for local elementary and middle school students this Thursday against Keene State. The event will allow local children the opportunity to enrich their math skills through basketball.

With approximately 500 students expected to participate from the May Street School, the Chandler Magnet School, Tatnuck School and the Forest Grove Middle School, the event is designed to offer students the opportunity to answer questions from grade appropriate math packets.

The questions will engage the students in solving problems related to player's statistics, scores, averages, court dimensions, the height of the basket from the floor and other math equations.

The contest will tip-off at noon and students will have the opportunity to meet and greet players from both teams following its conclusion.

The Lancers (6-6) look to end a two-game losing streak to the Owls (7-3) who defeated Worcester State last season, 61-46. KSC leads the all-time series 9-3.

WSU is led in scoring by sophomore Meaghan Burns (W. Brookfield, MA) who averages 11.5 PPG as senior Kaleigh Charette (Fairhaven, MA) is right behind with 11.3 PPG and a squad high 7.8 RPG. Charette is just 31 points away from the 1,000 point milestone.

Keene State fourth-year Courtney Cirillo (Windsor Locks, CT) paces the squad with 13.3 PPG, 7.3 RPG and 3.1 APG while classmate Sara Laudano (N. Haven, CT) chips in with 10.8 PPG.
