Worcester State Women Fall To Salem
Worcester, MA -- The Worcester State College womens basketball fell to the visiting Salem State College Lady Vikings Saturday afternoon on their MASCAC regular season finale by the final tally of, 94-78, in Lancer Gymnasium.

Worcester, MA --- The Worcester State College women's basketball fell to the visiting Salem State College Lady Vikings Saturday afternoon on their MASCAC regular season finale by the final tally of, 94-78, in Lancer Gymnasium. The evening marked milestones for both squad on Senior Day as Lancer senior Lindsay DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA) reset the single game scoring record with 38 points and Salem State senior Lindsey Watkins (Marlboro, MA) reached the 1,000 point milestone on a first half bucket.
The first half featured several runs by both teams. The Lady Vikings raced out to an 18 point first half lead, 49-31, behind a 17 point 8 rebound half by sophomore Danielle Jenkins (Marlboro, MA). The Lancers opened the game with an, 8-2, run over the first 4:23 before Salem State answered right back with a 16-2 run to put the visitors up, 18-10, halfway through the frame. Worcester State tied the game at, 20-20, a couple of minutes later on a 10-2 run But Salem State was too strong as they built a 19 point lead over the final 6 minutes of action for a, 49-31, lead. Worcester State's DelleChiaie led the Lancer offensive attack with 14 first half points as Worcester State shot 36.8 percent from the field. Along with Jenkins, Salem State's Melissa Macchi (Peabody, MA) added 14 points.
The Lancers made a second half run but could get no closer than 7 points.
DelleChiaie lead all scorer's with her 38 points. She
broke the record of former Lancer standout Carrie Gladden who set
the record back in 1991. Freshman Alexis
George (Worcester, MA) scored 11 in the loss followed by
sophomore Brianne Flanders (Southampton, MA) who
added 10. Salem State had 4 players reach double figures with
Jenkins leading the way with 26 points and 9 boards. Macchi
finished with 16 followed by Michelle Gosselin
(Underhill Center, VT) with 14 points and Manise
Louinord (Lynn, MA) with 11 on the day.
Worcester State will begin the MASCAC postseason tournament on
Tuesday evening in Lancer Gymnasium as they have earned the fourth
seed and will take on the fifth seeded Westfield State College
Owls. Salem State has earned a first round bye and the second
seed in the tournament. They will await the winner of the
Fitchburg State/MCLA first round game on Friday.
