Final
Worcester State: 14
Bowdoin: 11
How it Happened:
It was a run fest at Legends Field for the Worcester State Lancers and Bowdoin Polar Bears Spring Break meeting. Worcester would start things off quick at the top of the first as senior Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA) would single sending senior Emma Lapoint (Westfield, MA) across home and senior Morgan Keefe (Dracut, MA) to third as they played the ball motion. Senior Amanda Adamuska (Dudley, MA) would add another single to the mix to bring in Keefe while first year Ella Snyder (Jefferson, MA) would grab two bases to send in Gasbarro and Adamuska. The first inning action would wrap up with sophomore Laurel Field (Holden, MA) with an additional single to bring Snyder home. Bowdoin would record one in the bottom of the inning but the Lancers would be right back on the action in the second.
Keefe singled to shortstop in the second, and an attempt to tag out junior Cali Brouillard (Millbury, MA) at third resulted in an error for the third baseman and another run for Worcester. Adamuska would continue the singles game to bring Keefe across for the 7-1 lead.
The third found the Polar Bears come to life with a double doubles to end the bottom of third with the score at 7-5. Worcester would again regain some breathing room in the fourth as Adamuska sent the ball deep to centerfield which allowed Keefe to score the run. First year Zoie Stevens (Claremont, NH) would add on a double to bring Gasbarro home while Snyder would put up another two bases to bring in Stevens. Bowdoin would record two more runs in the bottom of the inning for a 10-7 score.
Keefe would send her own sacrifice fly out to right field to ensure Brouillard crossed home for a slight insurance run as the Polar Bears would again force across another two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Looking to provide some additional breathing room again, Keefe set the ball into play and a bobble by the second baseman provided her the base and senior Bailey Tammaro (Fitchburg, MA) would use the error to continue her charge around third and advance home for the score. Senior Carisa Andrews (Medford, MA) would step into pinch run and in stealing second gave the chance to Brouillard to score run 13 from third and doubled on that play by advancing on the challenge at the plate to end up on third. All the hard work was paid off when Adamuska power singled up the middle to bring Andrews in for run 14. The Polar Bears would claim two back before the final out of the game as Worcester claimed the 14-11 win.
