Paulino-Acosta Leads Lancers to Impressive Day at Corsair Classic
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State University men's outdoor track and field team traveled to UMass-Dartmouth on Friday and Saturday for the Corsair Classic, and the Lancers delivered a number of standout individual performances across a wide range of events.

The day's top performer may have been senior Kelvin Paulino-Acosta (Sutton, MA), who took home gold in the triple jump with a winning mark of 12.78m while also claiming second place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.00m — a remarkable double-event day.
In the sprints, senior Seth Boudreau (Douglas, MA) led the way with a strong third-place finish in the 200m with a time of 22.53 seconds. First-year Kendrick Adusei (Worcester, MA) also competed in the 200m, placing 16th in 23.84 seconds, while first-year Sandro Merone (Weymouth, MA) finished 22nd in 24.23 seconds and sophomore CJ Harrell (Holland, MA) rounded out the group in 31st with a time of 24.94 seconds.
In the 400m, sophomore Cole Berriault (Wareham, MA) led Worcester State with a 15th-place finish in 54.29 seconds, followed by Adusei in 18th at 55.33 seconds and senior Patrick Harvey (Holden, MA) in 26th at 57.00 seconds.
Junior Keenan Ansah added to the day's hardware with a runner-up finish in the long jump, soaring to 6.14m, while Boudreau also placed fifth in that event with a mark of 6.00m. Merone contributed a ninth-place finish at 5.51m, and senior Nicholas Violette (Webster, MA) placed 13th with a mark of 5.19m.
On the track, junior Kelan Mahoney (Oakham, MA) turned in one of the meet's most impressive performances, claiming third place in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:39.00. In the 1,500m, first-year Andrew Feinblatt (Framingham, MA) placed 34th in 4:32.53, first-year Lincoln Schiller (Uxbridge, MA) finished 36th in 4:36.97, and first-year Taku Pettengill (Shirley, MA) crossed in 40th at 4:39.39. In the 5,000m, graduate student Alexander Lucier (Gardner, MA) led the distance crew with a 14th-place finish in 16:50.35, with first-year Liam Dietz (Longmeadow, MA) close behind in 16th at 17:14.35 and sophomore Daniel Smith (Medway, MA) finishing 20th in 17:42.15.
In the field events, junior Garrett Papierski (Webster, MA) led the throwers with a 12th-place finish in the shot put (12.80m), followed by junior Kodie LeGrand (Tewksbury, MA) in 20th (11.85m) and sophomore Gavin Delgado (Douglas, MA) in 24th (11.57m). Papierski was also the Lancers' top finisher in the hammer (20th, 36.24m), with junior Andrew Lucier (Gardner, MA) close behind in 24th at 30.57m. In the discus, sophomore Caleb Berg (Worcester, MA) paced the group with a 19th-place finish at 33.23m, and Papierski added a 24th-place finish at 31.37m. Junior Andrew Lucier was the team's best in the javelin, placing 10th with a throw of 40.19m, with sophomore Hunter Cormier (Westminster, MA) finishing 13th at 36.99m and Delgado placing 16th at 33.17m.
The hurdles also saw a pair of close finishes, with first-year Ryan Wing (Barre, MA) (11th, 63.70) and first-year Dominique Billups (Pittsfield, MA) (12th, 63.78) running nearly identical times in the 400m hurdles. Billups also picked up a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (11.61m) and sophomore James Almeida (Auburn, MA) rounded out the Lancers' triple jump efforts with a sixth-place finish at 11.06m. Wing cleared 1.72m for seventh in the high jump.
In distance events, senior Alex Matsuyasu (Newton, MA) finished eighth in the 10,000m with a time of 39:00.12.
The Lancers are back in action on April 4th when they head to Fitchburg State for the Jim Sheehan Invite.
