Boudreau, Paulino-Acosta Lead Lancers in Standout Showing at Smith
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State University Men’s Indoor Track & Field team turned in a well-rounded and energetic performance Saturday at the Mary Grinaker Invitational, hosted by Smith College, highlighted by multiple podium finishes across the events in an impressive showing of depth across sprints, jumps, hurdles, distance, and field events.

The Lancers made their presence known immediately in the 60m dash, where senior Seth Boudreau (Douglas, MA) sprinted to a second-place finish in both the prelims, in a time of 7.08, and finals at 7.11, continuing his standout season in the short sprints. He was joined in the finals by three teammates, showcasing Worcester State's sprint depth. First year Sandro Merone (Weymouth, MA) finished fourth overall at 7.18, first year Jarrett Brown (Milford, MA) placed fifth at 7.2), and junior Tyshawn Craigg (Springfield, MA) added an eighth-place finish, crossing the line at 7.30.
The Lancers carried that momentum into the 200m, where first year Kendrick Adusei (Worcester, MA) delivered a podium performance, taking third in 24.20. Sophomore Cole Berriault (Wareham, MA) added a fifth-place effort with a time of 24.50, while first year Matteo Oliveri Kuhnle (Bedford, MA) cracked the top ten with a 10th-place finish at 24.68.
In the 400m, Worcester State again demonstrated depth and speed as junior Keenan Ansah raced to a second-place finish in 53.54, while first year Taylor Feliciano (Milford, MA) finished fourth in a time of 54.58 and sophomore Yael Lopez (Milford, MA) claimed seventh at a 54.65 time, as both turned in strong top-eight performances. Berriault added another top-ten result, finishing ninth.
Middle distance efforts were highlighted by junior Kelan Mahoney (Oakham, MA), who placed third in the 600m with a time of 1:28.06. First year Youness Chahid, Fy. (Revere, MA) followed closely in fifth at a time of 1:28.41,, while graduate student Alexander Lucier (Gardner, MA) added an eighth-place finish. In the 1,000m, first year Ryan Wing (Barre, MA) earned seventh in 2:51.97 as fellow first year Lincoln Schiller (Uxbridge, MA) added a top-ten finish. Rookie Andrew Feinblatt (Framingham, MA) posted a solid eighth-place mile time of 4:53.04.
In distance action, first year Liam Dietz (Longmeadow, MA) claimed a seventh place finish at 17:31.68 alongside senior Alex Matsuyasu (Newton, MA) in eighth at a time of 18:21.64 in the 5,000m.
The hurdles and jumps proved to be major scoring areas for Worcester State. Senior Kelvin Paulino-Acosta (Sutton, MA) qualified for the 60m hurdles final and placed fourth overall with a 9.35, while first year Ryan Wing (Barre, MA) improved in the finals to take fifth at a time of 9.63..
Paulino-Acosta also delivered one of the top field performances of the meet, winning the pole vault with a first-place clearance of 3.60m. In the long jump, Boudreau continued his excellent day with a runner-up leap of 6.32m, while Ansah added an eighth-place finish.
The 4x200m relay team of Boudreau, Brown, Craigg, Feliciano, and Lopez combined for a second-place finish in 1:34.78, capping off a strong day for the sprint group.
In the throws, junior Garrett Papierski (Webster, MA) led the way with a fourth-place finish in the shot put mark of 13.68m and added a seventh-place result in the weight throw at 12.60m. Junior Andrew Lucier (Gardner, MA) contributed top-ten finishes in both throwing events, including eighth in the weight throw.
The Lancers return to action next Friday, February 6th, with a trip to Coast Guard in their final meet before the MASCAC Championship on February 15th hosted at Wheaton College.
