Lancers Claim Top Spots in Cross Division Battle at Suffolk Ice Breaker
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State University men’s indoor track and field team opened the season with a strong showing at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Challenge, competing at the Track at New Balance against a deep and talented field. The Lancers showcased early-season speed, depth, and promise across sprints, middle distance, relays, and field events, highlighted by multiple top Division III finishes.

The Lancers showcased early-season speed, depth, and promise across sprints, middle distance, relays, and field events, highlighted by multiple top Division III finishes.
Senior sprinter Seth Boudreau (Douglas, MA) led the way in the 60-meter dash, advancing from prelims with a time of 7.13 before finishing 8th overall in the finals (7.21). Among Division III competitors, Boudreau's performance ranked second, setting an impressive tone for Worcester State's sprint group to begin the indoor campaign.
In the 200 meters, the Lancers displayed depth with several athletes gaining valuable experience on the fast New Balance surface. First year Jarrett Brown (Milford, MA) paced Worcester State with a 33rd-place finish in 23.57, while junior Tyshawn Craigg (Springfield, MA) crossed in 23.84. First-year runners Taylor Feliciano (Milford, MA) and Michael Osei Tutu (Worcester, MA) added solid efforts in their collegiate indoor debuts.
The 400 meters proved to be another highlight for the Lancers, as Keenan Ansah turned in an outstanding race, finishing 13th overall in 51.65, which ranked third among Division III athletes. Worcester State also received performances from first year Youness Chahid (Revere, MA),senior Alan Gomez (Clinton, MA), and senior Patrick Harvey (Holden, MA) as the squad continued to build strength in the one-lap event.
In the middle distances, first year Andrew Feinblatt (Framingham, MA) impressed in the 1,000 meters, placing 13th overall in 2:48.86, good for fourth among Division III runners. Fellow first-year Lincoln Schiller (Uxbridge, MA) followed closely, finishing 17th overall and fifth in Division III (2:53.95), while first year Ryan Wing (Barre, MA) rounded out the group with a strong effort. Junior Kelan Mahoney (Oakham, MA) led Worcester State in the 800 meters with a time of 2:07.58.
The Lancers also competed in the mile, paced by graduate student Alexander Lucier (Gardner, MA), who finished 35th in 4:43.73, with additional contributions from senior Alex Matsuyasu (Newton, MA) and first year Liam Dietz (Longmeadow, MA).
Worcester State's 4x400-meter relay team combined for a 15th-place finish in 3:45.08, gaining valuable early-season chemistry in a competitive field.
In the field events, senior Kelvin Paulino-Acosta (Sutton, MA) highlighted the day in the pole vault, clearing 3.70 meters to place eighth overall and third among Division III competitors. In the throws, junior Garrett Papierski (Webster, MA) recorded a 17th-place finish in the shot put (12.36m) and followed with a 22nd-place effort in the weight throw (12.41m), ranking fifth among Division III athletes.
The Lancers are back in action next Saturday when they head to Springfield for the Massasoit Classic.
