Centerville, MA --- Junior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) has been named Corvais ECAC Division III New England Track and Field Athlete of the Week for his standout performance this past weekend at the Boston University Valentine Invitational.
Gibson, who was recognized as the MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week on Monday, took home third place as the top collegiate finisher in the trials of the 60 meter hurdles (8.05) for the fastest time in Division III and placed 24th in the 200 meters to tie for the ninth-best time nationally (21.99).
His split from this past weekend tied for the 10th fastest split in the 60 meter hurdles in Division III history as it equaled a mark that Alonzo Wiggins of Lincoln (PA) set in 1999. Gibson was also 0.01 off of the school mark that he set by winning the NCAA Division III National Championship in the 60 meter hurdles last season (8.04), which was the ninth best split in divisional annuls.
In addition to his standings nationally in the 60 hurdles and the 200, he is also tied for the 28th-best 60 meters time with the 7.00 he ran at the Dartmouth Relay's on January 12 en route to his first career Corvais ECAC Division III New England Athlete of the Week honor.
Entering the week of the MASCAC/Alliance Championships of Southern Maine on Saturday, Gibson looks to defend his titles in both the 55 and the 55 meter hurdles while also helping the Lancers claim their first-ever indoor conference championship.
He is the top-ranked student-athlete in both events among league competitors entering the weekend as his 200 time is second in New England.
