Lancers Place Sixth at Tartan Invitational
Northampton, MA --- Sophomore Nate Starling clocked second in the 55 meter hurdles (7.85) fourth in the 55 meter dash (6.66) and tied for 10th in the 200 (24.12) to help lead the Worcester State mens indoor track team to a sixth place finish at the Tartan Invitational hosted by Smith College. Sophomore Ian Fields (pictured) also added first in the high jump for WSC.
Northampton, MA --- Sophomore Nate Starling (Braintree, MA) clocked second in the 55 meter hurdles (7.85) fourth in the 55 meter dash (6.66) and tied for 10th in the 200 (24.12) to help lead the Worcester State men's indoor track team to a sixth place finish at the Tartan Invitational hosted by Smith College.
Sophomore Ian Fields (Shrewsbury, MA) had the lone first place finish in the high jump (1.86 meters) while senior James Macera (Paxton, MA) was fifth in the weight throw (13.95m). Senior Matt Leeds (Bellingham, MA) tallied fourth in the long jump (6.21m) as freshman Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) was right behind him in sixth with a leap of 5.97 meters.
Second-year Nick Capone (Billerica, MA) added eighth in the shot put (12.36m) and classmate Andrew Garcia (Brea, CA) cleared ninth in the pole vault (3.50m).
First-year Julio Arzu (Lynn, MA) and Paquin placed sixth (6.86) and seventh (6.91) in the 55 while Fields sprinted to finish eighth in the 400 (52.79).
Freshman Alex Droby (Uxbridge, MA) took home eighth in the mile to round out the finishers for WSC.
WPI took home the top spot for the third straight year with 183.50 points followed by Amherst (155), Division II Saint Rose (122), SUNY Cobleskill (103) and Union (69) while WSC tallied 49 points in sixth.
Worcester State hits the track again next week at the MASCAC Championships and New England Alliance Championships hosted by Southern Maine.
