Palmer, Lignelli, and DeAngelis Earn MASCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Weekly Awards

 WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's Mike Palmer (Grafton, Mass.), Cory Lignelli (Glastonbury, Conn.), and Andy DeAngelis (Poughquag, N.Y.) have been tabbed the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of the Week, Goalie of the Week, and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the week of Dec. 5-11 as announced by the conference Monday (Dec. 12) afternoon.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Mike Palmer – Jr. – F – Grafton, Mass.

Palmer scored the team's first game-winning goal and then assisted on the last power play goal in the Lancers' 5-0 shutout over Stonehill College.

"He has been playing well and gaining confidence every week," said head coach Shayne Toporowski. "He is a big body who is learning how to use it every game."

Palmer presently has five points on the season as he has scored three goals and assisted two.

"I look forward to seeing continued growth from Mike in the second half of the season," concluded Toporowski.

GOALIE OF THE WEEK

Cory Lignelli – So. – GK- Glastonbury, Conn.

Lignelli recorded his first collegiate shutout this past week, marking 22 saves in the Lancers' 5-0 victory over Stonehill College.

"Corey has put in work this past summer and came into the season ready to compete for a starting spot," said Toporowski. "He has been tracking the puck better every practice and game, and I could not be happier that he was awarded goaltender of the week."

Lignelli is currently 2-2-1 on the season and has compiled 117 saves for a .914 save percentage thus far on the 2016-17 season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Andy DeAngelis – Fr. – F – Poughquag, N.Y.

First year DeAngelis scored a goal in the Lancers' 5-0 shutout of Stonehill College.

"Andy has accepted the roles we have in place for him and, in turn, can focus on the task he is given," stated Toporowski. "He is a very coachable player who is being rewarded by his hockey IQ."

This goal against Stonehill College was his third on the season.

"I am interested to see what he can do when he gets physically strong with the program," concluded Toporowski.
