Ice Hockey, Framingham State Draw Even In Overtime, 3-3

Framingham, MA --- Framingham State junior Brendan McCarron (Millbury, MA/St. John's) and senior Eric Ward (Haverhill, MA/Valley Jr. Warriors) both tallied third period markers to help the Rams tie with Worcester State, 3-3, in overtime on Thursday evening in MASCAC men's ice hockey action.

With the draw Framingham State moves to 3-1-1 (3-0-1 MASCAC) while the Lancers are now 3-2-1 overall and 0-2-1 in league action.

Senior Daniel Miressi (Monroe, CT/Hartford Jr. Wolfpack) helped the hosts stake the early 1-0 margin midway through the first period by taking advantage of a power play with his second tally of the season.

WSU responded and equalized the contest at the 16:51 mark on the second marker of the year by freshman Alex Dewitz (Oronco, MN/Helena Bighorns) who received some help from junior Andrew Bates (Marblehead, MA/Boston Jr. Bulldogs) and junior Vinny Bohn (Spring Hill, FL/El Paso Rhinos) with the extra man edge.

The Blue and Gold used the middle frame to score a pair of goals for the 3-1 margin.

First-year Michael Dery (Grand Rapids, MI/Odgen Mustangs) lit up the lamp with 10:26 on the clock for his first collegiate goal before Bates potted his third of the year seven minutes later on assists by Dewitz and junior Cody Osburn (Sacramento, CA/Fresno Monsters).

But the Rams answered back in the final stanza with two early goals when McCarron netted his fourth just 3½ minutes into the period and when Ward scooped in the eventual game-tying marker at the 7:28 mark.

Neither team had much luck in extra time as shots were even on the ledger, 4-4, in the overtime session.

FSU senior goalie Nicholas Carfrelli (San Jose, CA/Minnesota Owls) and his counterpart, sophomore Salvatore Tecci (Franklin, MA/Long Beach Bombers), both stopped 42 shots each for their respective clubs.

It was a frustrating evening for the Lancers with the extra man advantage as they converted just one of their nine attempts. Rams defense also killed their last six power plays on special teams and went 1-for-4 with an additional man on the ice.

Shots were even at 45-45 for the contest. Bates had two points on a goal and an assist for the Blue and Gold as sophomore Richard Hill (Tampa, FL/SOO Eagles) dished out a pair of helpers for the Rams.

Both squads will continue their MASCAC slates on Saturday. Worcester State hosts Plymouth State at 4:45 PM while Framingham State heads to Fitchburg State for a meeting at 4 o'clock.
