Framingham State Edges Ice Hockey, 3-2
Auburn, MA --- Framingham State scored the game-winning goal with 1:02 left on the clock to defeat Worcester State, 3-2 this evening. Down 2-1 entering the third period freshman Derek Serbon tied the score up for the Lancers at the 13:37 mark.
Auburn, MA --- Freshman Daniel Miressi (Monroe, CT) netted the game-winning goal for Framingham State with 1:02 left on the clock to help lift the Rams to a 3-2 triumph over Worcester State in MASCAC men's ice hockey action this evening at Horgan Rink.
With the Lancers (7-4-3, 4-3-1 MASCAC) trailing 2-1 entering the final stanza freshman Derek Serbon (Crown Point, IN) sent in the game-tying goal at 13:37 on assists from junior Nick Asterito (Philadelphia, PA) and freshman Mark Owen (Denver, CO).
The Rams (2-10, 2-7 MASCAC) then killed a pair of penalties midway through the period to set up Miressi's late game heroics as he received some help on the breakaway score from sophomore Ben Pacific (Marlboro, MA) and first-year Bo Driscroll (Chelmsford, MA).
Worcester State would pull their goalie for the last 47 seconds of the game, but the visitors kept WSU on their side of the blue line to earn the hard-fought victory.
The Blue and Gold held a 16-2 edge in shots in the opening frame, but the game remained scoreless as the Lancers killed a pair of penalties in the period and Framingham State held off one.
Worcester State opened the second period with the first marker of the season from sophomore Pat Stychiewicz (Chicopee, MA) at the 2:28 mark, but Framingham State would respond with the game-tying goal 54 seconds later from junior Aran Ward (Dunstable, MA) and the go-ahead tally from Miressi with 3:51 off the clock on a power play.
The Blue and Gold had a frustrating evening as they outshot Framingham State 49-17 as they were 0-for-3 with the extra-man advantage.
Senior Terence Sullivan (Shirley, MA) notched this evening's second star for the Rams as he stopped 47 of the 49 shots he saw on net this evening. Junior Bryan Kalczynksi (Tonawanda, NY) recorded 14 saves in the setback.
Miressi now leads Framingham State with nine goals and five assists for a team-best 14 points.
Both squads return to MASCAC play with home games on Saturday. Worcester State entertains UMass Dartmouth at 4:30 while Framingham State hosts Salem State at 2:30.
