Southern New Hampshire Advances To Saturday’s Championship
Auburn, MA --- Senior Troy Maybury scored two goals while first-year keeper Tyler Holske tallied 63 saves to help l ift Southern New Hampshire to a 3-1 triumph this evening over Johnson & Wales in opening round action of the Pepperidge Farms Face Off Classic hosted by Worcester State at Horgan Memorial Rink.
Auburn, MA --- Senior Troy Maybury (South Portland, ME) scored two goals while first-year keeper Tyler Holske (Attleboro, MA) tallied 63 saves to help lift Southern New Hampshire to a 3-1 triumph this evening over Johnson & Wales in opening round action of the Pepperidge Farms Face Off Classic hosted by Worcester State at Horgan Memorial Rink.
The Penmen (1-1) will advance to Saturday's championship game at 7:30 while the Wildcats (1-2) will play in the consolation game at 4:30. Both will watch from the sidelines to find out their opponent from tonight's matchup between the Lancers and Western New England.
Southern New Hampshire opened the game with the 1-0 lead at the 4:15 mark as Maybury tallied his first marker of the season on assists from sophomore Tautvyas Shalna (Williston, VT) and fourth-year William Toomey (Reading, MA). The two teams headed for the locker rooms as Johnson & Wales had the 17-9 advantage in shots in the opening frame.
The Penmen had a great chance to add to their lead with a five minute major penalty to open up the frame, but Wildcats held them off as SNH registered six shots on goal.
Johnson & Wales then had an extra man advantage with three men on the ice midway through the second, but the Penmen defense was stout as they rejected five attempts on net.
It was outstanding play by Holske with his 28 stops in the period that gave his team some momentup as first-year Brian Troy (Ashburnham, MA) to score on a short-handed goal off a pass by sophomore Cameron O'Brien (Spofford, NH), just as he was leaving the penalty box.
Southern New Hampshire added an insurance goal for the 3-0 lead with 1:35 off the clock in the third as Maybury added his second marker as Toomey and Shalna each added helpers.
Johnson & Wales broke the shutout 63 seconds later on the first goal of the year by sophomore Jason Pietrasiak (Shrewsbury, MA). Junior Jeremiah Ketts (Foristell, MI) and classmate Domenic Recchia (Sterling Heights, MI) contributed to the marker as the Wildcats scored on a power play goal.
Johnson & Wales outshot the Penmen 64-28 as they were also 1-for-6 with the extra man. Southern New Hampshire.
Wildcat sophomore Matt Cooper (Perrysburg, OH) recorded 25 stops while Holske earned his first career victory.
