Knauber Helps Lead the Lancers in 4-4 Tie

Hookset, NH  --- Visiting Worcester State College scored three times in a span of 2:14 late in the third period to force overtime and an eventual 4-4 ice hockey tie with Southern New Hampshire University at The Ice Den Saturday night. The Penmen are now 6-10-1 overall, while the Lancers move to 4-11-3 on the season.

With 3:04 to play and down 4-1, Worcester State found itself with a 5-on-3 when a skirmish ensued following an initial penalty called on SNHU's Frank O'Connor (Arlington, MA). It took just 12 seconds for WSC's John Cahalane (Tewksbury, MA) to capitalize on the first power play, making it 4-2. Now with a 5-on-4 situation, the Lancers drew within a goal at the 18:35 mark on a goal by Chris Wallin (Avon, CT).

Worcester State would pull goalie Andrew Evans (Cromwell, CT) with 42 seconds remaining, and it took the guests just four seconds to score with the extra attacker as William Knauber (Cheektowga, NY) tied the game on an unassisted tally.

After a scoreless first period, Worcester State took a 1-0 lead 1:15 into the second period when Nick Asterito (Philadelphia, PA) scored for the Lancers. Ryan DiBartolomeo (Leominster, MA) tied the game for SNHU on a power play 3:21 later, with Dave Carroll (Arlington, MA) and John Frey (Westminster, CO) adding assists on the play.

The Penmen would score three times in a span of 7:46 midway through the third period to build a 4-1 lead. O'Connor scored his first collegiate goal on a power play at the 7:46 mark, then Doug Boulanger (Beauport, Quebec) would give SNHU a 3-1 lead at the 14:53 mark. 34 seconds later, Troy Maybury (South Portland, ME) made it a 4-1 game on an assist from Bob Bryant (Nashua, NH).

Shane Brooks (Kennebunk, ME) made 18 saves for Southern New Hampshire as it outshot Worcester State 41-22. Evans stopped 37 shots for the Lancers.

Worcester State is back in action on the road on Tuesday at WNEC for a 5:20 face-off in an ECAC Northeast contest while Southern New Hampshire returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts Saint Anselm College for a 7:30 PM.
