Rams Score Late to Draw 3-3 Tie With Lancers

Auburn, MA --- Framingham State junior Joseph Hurley (Charlestown, MA) knotted a 3-3 game at 13:37 in the third period to help the Rams draw a 3-3 tie, in overtime, with Worcester State this evening at Horgan Memorial Rink in ECAC Northeast action.

The Lancers (4-10-2, 2-6-2 ECAC NE) opened the scoring with two goals - six minutes apart - in the opening period by freshman Erik Poitras (Duxbury, VT) and sophomore Dillon Wilde (Holden, MA) for the first career tallies for both players.

Senior Sean Maguire (Plymouth, MA) cut the lead in half to make it 2-1 at 13:48 in the first stanza with junior Jason Anderson (Arden Hills, MN) handing out the first of his two assists on the play.

Worcester State added to the lead when freshman Cody Warila (Ridgewood, NJ) sent in his fourth goal of the season at 5:46 in the second period to put WSC up 3-1.

From that point on Framingham State (0-16-4, 0-9-3 ECAC NE) took control of the pace of the game and out shot the Lancers 36-21 over the games last 39 minutes.

The Rams notched a pair of goals in the third period to tie the game and put the pressure on Worcester State. Junior John Mortimer (Corapolis, PA) notched a short-handed marker at 2:40 off the clock in the final stanza and then Hurley tied the game on an assist by Anderson and freshman Thomas Manning (Rockland, MA) at 13:37.

Worcester State drew a penalty in the games final two minutes of play, but their defense stiffened and they held off the Rams power-play attack to force an overtime period.

In the extra frame both teams’ tallied four shots apiece, but neither had a good opportunity to score as each goalkeeper made an outstanding effort to preserve the final score.

With his goal in the second Warila now shares the team lead in tallies (7) with John Cahalane (Tewksbury, MA) who registered an assist in the contest. Anderson moves up his team’s lead in assists and points with 15 and 22, respectively, this season while Hurley is in sole possession of first in team markers for the Rams with nine.

Junior Andrew Evans (Cromwell, CT) collected 44 saves in the cage for the Lancers. Sophomore Terence Sullivan (Shirley, MA) gave way to Andy Joyce (Milford, MA) who ended the evening with 23 stops for Framingham State.

Worcester State will play six of their last eight games on the road starting with a non-conference contest against Westfield State on Wednesday at 8:15 PM while the Rams will travel to Nichols next Saturday for an 8:30 face-off.
