Jezierski Places Fourth at Hampton Inn Collegiate Invitational

N. DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Worcester State's Mike Jezierski (Thompson, Conn.) marked a fourth place finish overall at the Hampton Inn Collegiate Invitational, hosted by UMass Dartmouth, this weekend at the Allendale Country Club, as the team placed ninth out of 18 teams overall at the tournament.

Jezierski carded 152 in two rounds of play, marking 79 strokes in the first day and then improving to 73 strokes in the second round played on Saturday (Apr. 9). He was only four strokes behind first place finisher, Colin Whitney (Longmeadow, Mass.), of Nichols College, just two strokes behind second place finisher, Austin Teal (Loudonville, NY) of Endicott College, and one stroke behind Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, Mass.) of Rhode Island College.

Overall as a team, the Lancers came in just one stroke behind eighth place finisher, Amherst College, and two behind seventh place Babson College. The team overall recorded a 657 – 345 on the first round, and 312 on the second. Husson University took home the crown with an overall score of 642 with four of their five golfers in the top 20.

Worcester State's Steven Ferraro (Leicester, Mass.) totaled a 167 (90-77), improving tremendously in the second round of play for a 36^th place finish, while senior Jackson Davis (Spencer, Mass.) carded a 168 (88-80) and came in at 40^th.

Rounding up the team for the Lancers was Patrick Sharron (Boylston, Mass.) with a 170 (88-82) and Eddie Peladeau (Douglas, Mass.) with a 183 (100-83).

"The first day was a miserable day to play golf," said head coach Mark Gurski. "It was cold, wet, and windy so the guys had to grind out whatever they could wherever they could. The second day was still tough, but the course wasn't as wet and we had better scoring opportunities as seen in our numbers."

The Lancers golf team returns to action on Tuesday (Apr. 12) when they host the Rich Korzec Memorial Invitational and MASCAC Championships at Blackstone National. "We are looking forward to hosting on Tuesday, and hope to see some top performances on the green," commented Gurski.
