Final
Worcester State: 96
Bridgewater State: 87
How it Happened:
Bridgewater State came out strong to start the game, building as big of a lead as 13 points early in the first half. However, the Lancers battled their way back with the help of junior Dajon Burton (Brockton, MA) off the bench, leading Worcester with 15 at the half and giving them the fuel they needed to stay competitive in the battle. Both teams were leveraging their inside scoring in the first versus the deep shot of the three-point game, with minimal
Action coming from outside the arc. Even with an aggressive first half, Worcester found themselves down 47-44 at the half and shifted focus to grab a tough win against the Bears.
The second half was much more favorable for the Lancers as they were able to come out of the half a lot more aggressive on both sides of the ball. Scoring inside the paint remained a focus point for Worcester as they continued to get most of their offense from inside the paint and second chance points. Sophomore Joe Okla (Worcester, MA) was a vital part of the Lancers success in the second half, dominating on the glass and leading the Blue and Gold with 14 rebounds as well as a team-high 5 assists. Worcester really brought the energy on the defensive side late into this game and were able to build up a 20 point lead at one point which would prove enough to walk away with the win 96-87.
What's Next:
Worcester State (13-12, 11-3) will now await the outcomes of the quarterfinal conference games next Tuesday before hosting the highest remaining seed on Thursday at 6pm on Brissette Court.
