How it Happened:
Throughout the first half, a combination of strong defense, dominant rebounding, and a balanced offensive attack allowed Worcester State to seize and maintain control of the game. The Lancers put together an extended stretch of dominant play, building a commanding advantage both on the scoreboard and in overall performance.
Worcester State forced multiple turnovers that led to fast-break opportunities, converted by several players, including sophomore Joe Okla (Worcester, MA), senior Shawn Hebert (Ayer, MA), senior Johnny Annan (Worcester, MA), and first-year Tzar Powell-Aparicio (Lowell, MA). That momentum carried over to the glass, where the Lancers won the rebounding battle as a team, creating consistent second-chance scoring opportunities while preventing Salem State from finding any offensive rhythm.
Timely three-point shooting paired with efficient scoring around the basket allowed Worcester State to methodically extend its lead, showcasing the Lancers' depth, energy, and intensity on both ends of the floor.
Worcester State maintained composure during the final half of the game, responding to each of Salem State's advances with decisive stops and effective scoring. The Lancers relied on solid defensive rebounding and quick hands to create turnovers, converting those instances into crucial points at the free-throw line and near the rim. Okla and Annan played a key role in the final moments, blending inside scoring with strong defense. While junior Dajon Burton (Brockton, MA) and sophomore Jaydon Buckle (Windsor Locks, CT) added crucial finishes and outside support to maintain the lead.
In the closing moments, Worcester State maintained control of the game, moving the ball effectively, minimizing second-chance opportunities, and capitalizing on the Vikings' errors. Steady effort on the boards and an organized half-court defense enabled the Lancers to maintain control and secure the game, highlighting their composure, depth, and ability to perform in critical moments. The Lancers end the game on top of the Vikings 90-75.
Okla led the Lancers on the night with 22 points and Annan held down the boards with nine boards.
