Worcester, MA- coming off a grueling game in Thursday versus Wesleyan College the Worcester State Men's Basketball team (1-5, 0-0) wrapped up their away slate of 2025 season with a meeting with the SUNY Poly Wildcats.
Final
Worcester State: 59
SUNY Poly: 78
How it Happened:
The first half opened with back-and-forth action between the two teams, with sophomore guard Rayan Sablon (Stoughton, MA) scoring a layup to get the Lancers on the board. Sophomore forward Joe Okla (Worcester, MA) briefly gave Worcester State the lead midway through the period. In the final ten minutes of the half, the Wildcats began to pull away, building an 11-point advantage with three minutes remaining. However, senior forward Johnny Annan (Worcester, MA) sparked a late surge for the Lancers, scoring six points down the stretch to trim the deficit to seven. Worcester State headed into halftime trailing 36–29.
The second half began with another quick layup from Sablon to jump-start the scoring. Once again, both teams traded baskets through the first five minutes, with the margin holding steady. Much like the opening half, the Wildcats managed to extend their lead, pushing it to 15 points with about eight minutes left. Okla and Sablon continued to contribute offensively, but the Lancers were unable to cut into the deficit late. As time wound down, the Wildcats padded their lead, and Worcester State ultimately fell short of a comeback.
Okla would lead the Lancers on the day with 16 points and six rebounds.
