Men’s Basketball Drops 80-64 Decision to Becker

WORCESTER, Mass. – Becker College's Kareem Davis (Lowell, Mass.) scored 25 points on five triples, a jumper and went 8-for-8 from the free throw line to lead the Hawks of Becker College to an 80-64 victory over Worcester State University in a Tuesday night non-conference game.

Becker came out to a 6-0 lead on back-to-back 3-pointers from Davis. Worcester State broke the scoreboard a minute and a half in on a fast break layup from sophomore Cal Howes (Maynard, Mass.). The visitors upped their lead to nine as Bernard Broaster (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) put up three points and Samuel Durodola (Rosedale, N.Y.) made a layup with 15:24 on the clock. With 13:54 on the clock Worcester State got within four succeeding a triple from Chris Cardoso (Jamaica Plains, Mass.) and a layup from Shaun McCarthy (Oxford, Mass.). Though, Becker pushed away to a 10-point lead as Davis and Durodola put up tallies with just over 10 minutes to go. The Hawks continued to extend their lead and saw their largest of the half (17) with 3:54 to go following a layup from Jamir Carr (Philadelphia, Penn.). The Lancers ignited a 7-0 run with 3:26 to go in the half to get within 10, but the Hawks closed out the half with a pair of free throws from Davis to put the score at 49-37.



Becker began the half with a 7-0 run to see their largest lead yet of 19. Minutes later the visitors advanced their lead to the largest of the game (23), as the visitors would not miss from the charity stripe. Worcester State's Will Watkins Jr. (Southbridge, Mass.) gave the Lancers anticipation when he made two triples, a layup, and a jumper to cut the visitors lead to just 15 with 8:40 to go. The Blue and Gold kept Becker's lead below 20 throughout the remainder of the game, but were unable to shorten the gap below 15, resulting in an 80-64 final score in favor of the Hawks.



  • Davis led the Hawks with a game-high 25 points on five triples and a perfect (8-8) free throw percentage. He also logged a game-high five assists.
  • Durodola put up 19 points on nine field goals and a free throw, while Dewayne Thomas (Springfield, Mass.) notched a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win, going 5-for-6 (83.3%) from the field.
  • Worcester State's offense was led by Watkins who was one rebound shy of a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds
  • McCarthy posted 17 points for the Lancers, while Cardoso made two three's and two jumpers for 10 points.
  • Becker held the advantage in shooting percentage: The Hawks shot 43.5% (30-69) from the field and 36.8% (7-19) from 3-point range, while Worcester State shot 37.9% (25-66) from the field and 24% (6-25) from beyond the arc.
  • Becker edged Worcester State in rebounds 44-40.
  • Becker scored 23 points off Worcester State's 16 turnovers.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was on November 15, 2014 when Worcester State defeated Becker 69-51. The year before, Becker edged Worcester State in a double overtime thriller.



Worcester State returns to the Lancer Gymnasium on Thursday (Dec. 7) when they host Mount Ida in a 7 p.m. matchup. Becker hosts Nichols on the same date.
