How it Happened:
Senior night started off with a bang: In the first quarter the Lancers capitalized early with a goal by first year Kylie Ciccone (Douglas, MA). Just a minute later the Lancers followed that up with another goal by fellow first year Katelynn Swistak (West Brookfield, MA). The Bears bounced back with a goal of their own to make it a 2-1 game headed into the second. The second quarter brought intensity, defensively the Lancers put their best foot forward and limited the Bears to a scoreless period. The Bears had 10 penalty corners and four shots on goal.
The second half started with the Lancers continuing their momentum, and first year Abby Matta (West Bridgewater, MA) scored and increased the WSU lead back to two goals, with an assist by senior Charlotte MacGregor (Bellingham, MA). They continued their defensive dominance, allowing no points on three shots on goals.
Heading into the closing quarter it was all Worcester State, just 42 seconds in, senior Kae Coleman (North Attleboro, MA) got the Lancers their 4th goal of the game and a three goal lead, coming from an assist by Swistak. With just under 10 minutes left in the game the Bears cut the lead down to two and would immediately strike again immediately to make it a 4-3 game with eight minutes of play left in search of an equalizer. The Bears did just that, completely shifted momentum and found a spark, scoring a third unanswered goal of the quarter and tying the game at four all. Worcester State had an opportunity to take the lead at the end of regulation off some crucial corners but were unable to convert.
After a 4th quarter comeback from Bridgewater; The Bears put the Lancers away on senior night with a goal in overtime to take the 5-4 win.
