Lancers Shut Down AMCATS in Homecoming Opener
Worcester, MA- With two straight conference wins under their belt the Worcester State Field Hockey team (2-8, 2-2) is looking to get above .500 today as they take on Anna Maria College in the first of the Homecoming Triple Header matches today. Worcester State is in full energy mode leading into the game with a combination of Family Weekend and the 2025 Homecoming surrounding the field.

How it Happened:
The Lancers, looking to get back in the win column, would come out firing to start the first quarter. First year Kaylie Ciccone (Douglas,MA) would set up a beautiful shot for senior Kae Coleman (Attleboro, MA) to score past the Amcats to get the first goal on the board in the contest. Ciccone would join the party as first year Abby Matta (West Bridgewater, MA) would set up Ciccone to get her first goal of the contest and extend a 2-0 lead.
Opening the second quarter senior Maggie Nailor (Dartmouth, MA) would drive to the net along the endline to extend the lead 3-0. Two minutes later Ciccone would fire her second goal as junior Josefine Cloutier (Greenfield, MA) would set up Ciccone to extend the lead to 4-0. The Lancers defense refused to let the Amcats enter the circle during the half as tough defense would carry the Lancers to a 4-0 score at the half with Ciccone leading the blue and gold with two goals and an assist.
Opening the second half would see the Lancers attack the offensive zone but the Amcats defense would answer the challenge. The Blue and Gold would fire eight shots towards the Amcats but to no avail. Defensively the Blue and Gold would shut down the Amcats offense as the contest would remain 4-0.
The final quarter would see one more goal as junior Maddie Parker (Leominster, MA) would set up senior Charlotte MacGregor (Bellingham, MA) as she tipped the pass to sophomore Kylie Casey (Hubbardston, MA) to snag her first goal and extend the lead for the Blue and Gold. The Lancers defense would shut out the Amcats offense holding them to zero shots on goal as the Lancers rout the Amcats 5-0.
What's Next:
The Lancers (3-8, 3-2) continue their first round of MASCAC meetings on Tuesday as they travel to Bridgewater State to take on the Bears at 7pm.
