Southern Maine: 3
How it Happened:
The opening two quarters of the meeting between the Huskies and the Lancers was a midfield battle being the name of the game. Southern Maine would find a goal five minutes into the game off a corner that was deflected over sophomore Lizzy MacDonald (Medford, MA) to open the game. The second quarter would see the Huskies add Southern Maine tack on a second one late of a quick restart and passing for 2-0 lead into the half.
Worcester would threaten early in the third collecting an early corner and quick shots but the Huskies defense blocked up the threat with two quick saves from the keeper and a defensive save to keep Worcester scoreless. The intensity would be on display in the third but though each team had some solid opportunities they were unable to find the gap between either keeper.
The final quarter of action would see both teams leaving it all out on the pitch. The Lancers would be awarded two corners but their attempts were just wide of success early in the last quarter. With just over eight minutes left Worcester would look to have a goal from senior Kae Coleman (Attleboro, MA) but another defensive save for Southern Maine would preserve the shutout. A breakaway down the field would find Southern Maine working it through the defense single handedly for their third goal of the game. Worcester would not back down and match the aggressiveness on the field but the time clicked away too quickly for Worcester as they fell to the Huskies 3-0.
