Worcester State Field Hockey Takes Top Spot in MASCAC Preseason Coaches Poll

Worcester, MA- With the MASCAC sponsoring an automatic bid to the NCAA for the first time, the six conference coaches have selected Worcester State to claim that the NCAA bid in the inaugural season. Previously all the MASCAC programs competed under the umbrella of the Little East where Worcester fell in the quarterfinals, though the Lancers did finish last season as the MASCAC regular season champions.

Worcester State finished with four first place votes for 24 points in this year’s poll. The Lancers were undefeated at 5-0 among the conference teams in 2022. Coming back is Madison Ferrera in goal who started in all 21 games for the Lancers and led the conference in goals against average at 1.745, and second in the conference with a .830 save percentage.

Tied for second behind Worcester was Framingham State and Westfield State who each claimed 18 points. Sitting in fourth is Fitchburg State with 15 points. In the final two spots are Salem State with eight points and Bridgewater State with seven points.
