Worcester, MA- Two Worcester State Field Hockey players received player of the week accolades after the first week of the season. Sophomore Madison Ferrara, named Co-Goalkeeper of the Week, and Graduate Student Ali Roy, Defensive Player of the Week, were honored after a defensive weekend that saw the Lancers come away with two home wins to start the season 2-0.
Roy was a key piece of both games on the weekend, recording an assist in the second quarter of Thursday night’s game versus Anna Maria and following it up with a double defensive save day on Saturday to help preserve the 2-1 victory over cross town neighbors Clark on Saturday afternoon. Roy currently has 1 point and two defensive saves on the young season.
Ferrara, though seeing no shots on Thursday night, was a vocal presence in the backfield keeping the defense information to help preserve the 5-0 shutout against Anna Maria. Her leadership was on mark Saturday afternoon in the defensive battle between Cougars and the Lancers that saw her record 8 saves on the night and her second win of the week and the season. Ferrara currently has a .667 GAA and a save percentage .889% on the season.
The Lancers end the week 2-0 and play next on Thursday, September 3, at Springfield College at 7pm.
