Field Hockey Team Puts On Skills Clinic At Tahanto High School

Boylston, MA --- On Friday, August 22, the Worcester State field hockey team traveled to Tahanto High School to help put on a skills and small game clinic from 3-5 PM.

With 30 players in attendance ranging from 6th through 12th grades, the participants rotated through fundamental and core stations, making a second rotation through fun and dynamic games.

"I wanted the clinic to focus on a wide variety of activities," said Worcester State field hockey coach Chris Pothier. "The goal was to expose as many basic and advanced skills to the players as possible. It allowed for a broader exposure and a greater take away from everyone involved."

Tahanto head field hockey coach Deb Draper was excited that the Worcester State team could help her players sharpen their skills during their August preseason workouts. It marked the second straight year that the squad parterned up with Tahanto.

"Our players were thrilled when they heard that the Worcester State team was coming back to run their clinic for us," said Draper. The college players do such a good job connecting with everyone on our team.

"Its great that the Worcester State players can demonstrate and teach the skills with fun drills that help with every level of player from middle school to varsity."

Pothier stressed the importance for his team to get involved in the community and how he wanted his student-athletes to help further expose the game of field hockey.

"We are always happy to step out in the community and expose Worcester State field hockey to future (collegiate) field hockey players," said Pothier. "The girls enjoy the experience and look forward to it every year."
