Worcester State: 19
Bridgewater State: 10
How it Happened:
The Lancers battled back from an early deficit to secure a hard-fought 19-10 victory, marking Head Coach Lazara Mitjans Jr.'s first win at the helm of the Worcester State football program.
After falling behind 3-0 in the opening minutes, the Lancers quickly responded. John Naso evened the score with a 30-yard field goal before senior quarterback Cam Ayotte (Millbury, MA) connected with junior Noah Jodoin (Agawam, MA) for a touchdown to give Worcester State a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The defense continued to shine in the second quarter, shutting down Bridgewater's offense and creating opportunities for the Lancers to extend their advantage. Sophomore Louie Freitas (Dartmouth, MA) added a 30-yard field goal, and Jodoin found the end zone again to make it 16-3 heading into halftime.
Both defenses tightened up in the third quarter, keeping scoring to a minimum while penalties slowed the pace of play. Worcester State held firm, maintaining their lead into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, the Lancers controlled the clock and sealed the victory in the closing moments. With just over a minute remaining, Freitas drilled a 42-yard field goal to put the game out of reach and cap off a statement 19-10 win for the Blue and Gold.
What's Next:
The Blue and Gold (1-3, 1-2) remain at home next weekend when they host Fitchburg State for a 12pm kickoff.
